WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN WITH AIDS
What about Children infected with HIV?
With financial support from Christian Aid, NEPHAK is implementing Advocacy activities aimed at enhancing children’s access to HIV and TB treatment, care and support. Of the more than 150,000 children infected with HIV in Kenya, the Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey (KAIS, 2008) reports that even though all these children are eligible for treatment, only 15% currently on ART. This is UNACCEPTABLE! in a country that is working towards the delivery of Universal Access Targets. The challenge is that children are not accessing HIV testing services. Since it is a network of people infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS, NEPHAK is uniquely suited to deal with ethical and human rights challenges facing institutions working to provide counseling and testing information and services to children and adolescents. As the country gears up for the delivery of UA targets, the question NEPHAK is asking is: WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN INFECTED WITH HIV? And how can one learn about a child’s HIV status if they are not accessing testing services?
