ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:
NACC through Kenya HIV and AIDS Research Coordination Mechanism (KARSCOM) has planned for a National HIV and AIDS Conference in May18-20, 2011 at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The theme of the Conference is, “HIV Programming Beyond Universal Access.” The objectives of the conference include:
- To promote new scientific evidence that informs HIV programming beyond Universal Access
- Share key research findings and address gaps in knowledge
- To foster multidisciplinary dialogue and document best practices in HIV and AIDS programming
The Conference will feature abstract driven sessions guided by KNASP III Pillars as sub-themes. Plenary sessions will be held between break-away sessions and at the end to facilitate discussion on major themes and to further facilitate coming up with consensus on the way forward. A one day pre-symposium focusing on Most at Risk Populations (MARPs) scheduled for May 17,2011 will precede the Conference. Four committees working under the oversight of the programme/steering committee of the Conference have been constituted and are meeting regularly to deliver on this activity. These committees include
i) Steering /Programme Committee
ii) Scientific and Technical Committee
iii) Communication and Publicity Committee
iv) Organizing and Logistics committee
v) Resource mobilization and Finance committee
The National Empowerment Network of people living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK) is part of the Conference Steering Committee (representing communities).
