The Organization
The National Empowerment Network of People living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK) is a national Network that unites people living with HIV and those affected by TB and HIV/AIDS through post test clubs, support groups, community based organizations, non-governmental organizations and networks.

Registered in 2003, the Network’s mission is to promote greater and meaningful involvement of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the national response to TB and HIV/AIDS.

The overall goal of NEPHAK is to improve the quality of life of people infected/affected by HIV and AIDS. To reach this goal, NEPHAKs has a purpose which is to enhance the knowledge and skills of PLHIV and affected communities in Kenya to participate meaningfully in TB and HIV/AIDS response policy, decision-making, mainstreaming and programming initiatives.

Board
NEPHAK’s Board is made up of 12 voting members: Chair; Vice-Chair; and Treasurer; and 9 provincial/regional representatives. In addition, there are 4 non-voting members: Secretary; and 3 co-opted members representing special interests (Programmes, Finance/Accounts and Legal/Human Rights). Each of the elected regional representatives has an alternate Board member.

The Board is responsible for overall governance of the Network, for developing new policies, and for approval of plans and strategies. The current Board will hold office for 2 years or up to the next National Delegates Conference (NDC).

Secretariat
NEPHAK has an operational national secretariat in Nairobi and two regional operational offices in Rift Valley and Coast Province. NEPHAK’s Secretariat is responsible for day-to-day operations, including mobilizing resources from the public and private sectors, managing programmes, providing financial and administrative support, and reporting to Board, members, development partners and the public.
The Secretariat is headed by a National Coordinator who is also the networks Chief Executive Officer.
